1982 Bathurst Winner Peter Brock and Larry Perkins

The 1982 James Hardie 1000 was the 23rd running of the Bathurst touring car race.
Peter Brock paired up with Larry Perkins in a new Holden Dealer Team VH Commodore which had made its debut at Sandown earlier in the year.
For Bathurst, the car was fitted with a television camera by the channel 7 Network technical engineers. It consumed most of the free space in the passenger side compartment of the car.
The cameras purpose was to beam live pictures to an international audience. The camera pan and tilt was controlled remotely by UHF radio signal. The pictures were then transmitted by microwave beam to a helicopter flying around 1000ft above. The signal was then relayed to a remote tracking site and onto the control centre before finally being aired to a world-wide audience.
During qualifying, Brock just missed out on pole position to Grice in an extremely tight session.
The hot weather and dry track allowed the race to be contested with fierce pace and fast lap times showcasing the intense rivalry between the two lead cars.
As the weather began to take its toll on many cars (22 did not finish), the lead cars were allowed to take control of the race but ultimately Brock & Perkins amassed a lead of just over one lap.
The 05 HDT car crossed the finish line to claim victory after completing the 163 laps in just over 6 hours and 32 minutes. Brock also achieved the fastest lap time of 2:20.1 at an average speed of 158.60 km/h.
This memorable victory was the first for Perkins and the 6th for Brock at Bathurst.
This model will be priced at $230 and is due for release during the 4th quarter of 2010. It is scheduled for a production of 7000.
