1977 was a year that was dominated by the Moffat Ford Dealer team including a 1-2 finish at Bathurst.

However, 1978 saw the rise of tough new competition, the Holden Torana, which would stretch the Falcons beyond their limits causing mechanical failures uhheard of in the previous year.

In August 1978, Ford announced the new Cobras which were the same cars that finished 1-2 at Bathurst the previous year, with a few minor improvements and the new paint scheme adopted from the Shelby Cobra.

The first two outings for the Cobra were plagued with problems including engine and gear box trouble.

The third outing was round three of the Championship of Makes (CoM) at Adelaide International Raceway.

This time both Cobras started well and seemed to be heading for a 1-2 finish but the all too familiar mechanical gremlins hit again.

Fortunately, Colin Bond’s lead in the number 2 car was sufficient enough over the Toranas that he was able to nurse his car home to take first place.

This drive by Bond was seen as masterful considering the poor condition of his engine and tyres at the end of the race

The iconic blue and white livery of the Moffat Ford Dealer Team Cobra was to only start 4 races, finishing its career with only one victory.

This release celebrates the sole race win of the Cobra
