Qualifying for the 1974 Bathurst race saw the two HDT L34 Toranas on the front row, with the

Peter Brock/Brian Sampson car #1 entry edging out the Colin Bond/Bob Skelton car #2 for pole position.

Early in the race the HDT Toranas were charging ahead, with the Ford Falcon of Goss/Bartlett 3 laps behind.

Peter Brock in car #1 was leading the Great Race, but a blown motor on Lap 118 would force their retirement.

The Goss/Bartlett XA Falcon would go on to victory, with Holden L34 Toranas taking out 2nd, 3rd and 4th position.

The L34 Toranas had proven they were capable with Brock/Sampson returning to win the 1975 race the following year.
