Holden’s secure a 1-2-3 Finish at Bathurst… Toll Holden Racing Team’s Garth Tander and Nick Percat won the 2011 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 in a thrilling last lap duel with Team Vodafone’s Car #888, piloted by Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife.
The win was the Holden Racing Team’s seventh Bathurst 1000 win after claiming victories in 1990, 1996, 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2009.
23 year-old Nick Percat also became the first rookie winner of the race since Jacky Ickx in 1977.
Tander held off a hard-charging Lowndes to take the win by just 0.2917 seconds, which was the closest margin in the history of the race between competing cars.
Second place for Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife gave them their 10th Bathurst 1000 podium finish each. That brings them both to within two of record-holders Peter Brock, Larry Perkins and Jim Richards (12 each). Amazingly, Lowndes and Skaife did not lead a lap all day.
Pole sitters Greg Murphy and Allan Simonsen, of the Pepsi Max Crew, rounded out the podium in third place.
The all-Holden podium was made even sweeter for the red lion as it marked the Holden Racing Team’s 200th all-time race win.
