Peter Brock started the 1983 Bathurst race in pole position in the HDT #05 Commodore and it did not take long in the race before a commanding lead had been achieved.

Peter’s dominance on the race ended in a puff of smoke on lap 8 of the race at the end of Con-Rod Straight and the car limped its way slowly back to the pits where it was determined that a bent valve in the engine had ended #05’s race.
But it wasn’t to be the end of Peter Brock’s day…he had a plan which would result in great controversy.

On lap 20, Harvey headed for the pits in the HDT #25 car to hand over to his co-driver Phil Brock. However, due to a loop hole in the rules relating to ‘cross-entering’ Peter Brock re-entered the race in the HDT #25 car in 5th place.
In a race that continued to take its toll on many cars, Peter Brock steadily gained ground on the leaders until he re-gained the lead on lap 48. By lap 50, Brock was 90 seconds in front and was never challenged again and went on to claim his seventh Bathurst win.

The official result was a win to Peter Brock, Perkins & Harvey. Phil Brock did not register a start in the race.
