87062 1970 Bathurst Torana Sandra Bennett and Christine Cole. #38C
The all female combination qualifying a comfortable 24th on the 60 strong grid. While the two lead HDT cars encountered various problems and would not figure in the results, Cole and Bennett enjoyed a great day on Mount Panorama and they crossed the line 13th overall and eighth in class having completed 123 of the 130 laps. The result would stand as the best finish in The Great Race by an all-female combination for nearly three decades before Melinda Price and Kerryn Brewer finished 12th in 1997, in the Cougars Commodore.

Not the fastest LC on the mountain in 1971 but certainly one of the best looking cars on the grid.

1985 Bathurst Holden VK Commodore Peter Brock and David Oxton

In 1985 Australian touring car racing ran under International Group A formula, rather than the indigenous Group C regulations that had been in force since 1973. This led indirectly to the Holden Commodores becoming less competitive against the imported Nissans, Volvos, BMWs and Jaguars.

The 1985 Bathurst 1000 was not one of Brock's nine wins; it was a race that was always going to prove difficult up against the best Group A cars from Europe. However, the hard-charging Brock, whose progress had twice been interrupted by pit stops to remove a broken windscreen and later to dislodge the rear window, was steadily making inroads on the leading John Goss Jaguar XJ-S. Despite only one win during the season, Brock nearly pulled off an upset podium, but his magnificent drive came to nothing just three laps from the chequered flag, when a timing chain broke while running a strong second.

1985 turned out to be the worst Bathurst result for Holden in history.

The launch of the mighty day-glow Holden Dealer Team VK Commodores in late-1984 coincided with the final days of the Group C touring car category that had served Australia for the previous 11 years. The factory-backed team built two brand new cars for the last few races of the season, wheeling out the impressive red and white cars for the first of the major endurance events at Sandown for the Castrol 500 which formed round three of the Australian Endurance Championship. Brock and Perkins finished a lap clear of the Allan Moffat/Gregg Hansford Mazda RX7 with the second HDT car of Harvey/Parsons two laps down in third. The win was Perkins’ first in the race but both men and their team had eyes on an even grander prize in a month’s time at Bathurst …

1973 Bathurst Ford XA Falcon GT Hardtop Carter/Nelson

The 1973 Bathurst Race saw some significant rule changes. It was the first year to feature the 1000km race distance, and introduction of a maximum allowable time for individual driver stints, making two drivers per cars compulsory. It was also the first time around Bathurst for the Falcon Hardtops. The Hardtops had very little testing which showed in their high attrition rate.

Murray Carter had competed in the 1973 ATCC in a Phase III Ford XY Falcon finishing 7th in the Championship. During the year he famously lent Allan Moffat his car for the Adelaide International raceway after Moffat's car was stolen the night before the race. Ford introduced the XA Hardtop racecar for the endurance races of the Australian Manufacturer Championship. A car that Murray Carter himself had a hand in the development of. The 1973 Bathurst saw Murray Carter paired with Lawrie Nelson, who had competed in 2 rounds of that years ATCC in an E49 Valiant Charger.

During the early stages of the race the Hardtop of Murray Carter/Lawrie Nelson suffered a blown tyre, the car was nursed to the pits where a new tyre was fitted and they continued racing. Of the five Hardtops to start the race, only two lasted the 1000km race, the winning car of Allan Moffat/Ian Geoghegan and Murray Carter/Lawrie Nelson who finished the race in 7th position.

Marking the ‘Diamond’ Anniversary of the first all-Australian car the 48-215 (widely known as the FX), General Motors Holden revealed the Coupe 60 to an excited crowd at the 2008 Melbourne Motor Show.

Six decades since the 48-215 rolled off the production line at Fishermans bend in port Melbourne; the Coupe 60 gives automotive fans a vision of Holden’s future.

Boasting a Chevrolet sourced 6.0 litre V8 outputting over 300kW, dual side exiting exhaust, 21-inch wheels, large rear air diffuser and a one-off paint called ‘Diamond Silver’ which gives a liquid aluminium finish

V8 Supercar inspired interior featuring a flat bottom steering wheel and LCD sports cluster.
Imposing 6.0 litre V8 fills the engine bay and features the replicated etch metal logo on the engine cover.
